Forecasting statplus7/14/2023 ![]() ![]() Our purpose here is to present an overview of this field by discussing the way a company ought to approach a forecasting problem, describing the methods available, and explaining how to match method to problem. The availability of data and the possibility of establishing relationships between the factors depend directly on the maturity of a product, and hence the life-cycle stage is a prime determinant of the forecasting method to be used. ![]() This kind of trade-off is relatively easy to make, but others, as we shall see, require considerably more thought.įurthermore, where a company wishes to forecast with reference to a particular product, it must consider the stage of the product’s life cycle for which it is making the forecast. If the forecaster can readily apply one technique of acceptable accuracy, he or she should not try to “gold plate” by using a more advanced technique that offers potentially greater accuracy but that requires nonexistent information or information that is costly to obtain. ![]() In general, for example, the forecaster should choose a technique that makes the best use of available data. These factors must be weighed constantly, and on a variety of levels. The selection of a method depends on many factors-the context of the forecast, the relevance and availability of historical data, the degree of accuracy desirable, the time period to be forecast, the cost/benefit (or value) of the forecast to the company, and the time available for making the analysis. The manager as well as the forecaster has a role to play in technique selection and the better they understand the range of forecasting possibilities, the more likely it is that a company’s forecasting efforts will bear fruit. Each has its special use, and care must be taken to select the correct technique for a particular application. Amniotic fluid embolism diagnosis7/14/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() The resultant ventricular failure leads to pulmonary edema and hypotension. If the mother survives this first insult, severe dilatation of the right ventricle causes relative left ventricular compression and elevated filling pressures with decreased left ventricular volume and stroke volume. Vasospasm of the pulmonary vasculature, hypoxia, and a rapid rise in right ventricular pressure leads to acute right heart failure and, in many cases, cardiac arrest. The acute onset of cardiovascular collapse is thought to result from an overwhelming activation of maternal inflammatory mediators in response to the fetal material. It is hypothesized that the disruption of the maternal-fetal barrier in labor allows for the passage of amniotic fluid, fetal cells, or other fetal debris into the maternal blood circulation, which in rare cases can trigger an anaphylactoid-type reaction. The exact pathogenesis of AFE remains unclear. Typically occurring during labor or shortly after delivery of the placenta, it is characterized by the sudden onset of cardiovascular and respiratory failure with no other identifiable cause followed by the rapid onset of disseminated intravascular coagulopathy ( DIC). Gag gift meaning7/13/2023 ![]() ![]() The conversion of Emperor Constantine to Christianity in AD 312 signalled the beginning of the end of pagan celebrations in the Empire, but early religious leaders couldn’t simply ban the popular Saturnalia, as there would be a backlash. Russian Orthodox statue of Saint Nicholas in Demre, Turkey. When did the Christian tradition of Christmas presents begin? This made it a lot harder to deal with when the religious status quo changed in the Empire. As it was a much-loved festival thanks to its carefree atmosphere, generous gift-giving, and lavish entertainments, people were less inclined to give up its popular traditions. Unlike many of the more cultish festivals held in the Roman Empire, Saturnalia was widely celebrated throughout all of the territories of Rome at the end of the calendar year. ![]() Some bosses often gave a gratuity known as a ‘sigillarcium’ to their clients or employees in order to help them purchase their gifts. Etiquette dictated that the lowlier the gift, the stronger the bond of friendship it was said to represent. As gifts of value were in contradiction to the spirit of the season, the Romans exchanged more modest items, such as candles, seasonal figurines, and ‘gag gifts’, which were designed to amuse or terrify the other guests. The day that gifts were exchanged was known as Sigillaria and took place on the 19th December. During this feast, slaves would be considered the equal of their masters and free speech was embraced.ĭepiction of Romans celebrating Saturnalia from a wall painting found at Pompeii. The festivities took place from the 17th to the 23rd of December, and were celebrated with a sacrifice and a public banquet, followed by private gift-giving, continued partying, and a wild atmosphere where social standings were done away with. However, the tradition of gift giving extended long before the founding of Christianity, with roots in the festivals of the ancient Romans - in particular the festival of Saturnalia, where thanks were given to the bounty provided by the agricultural god Saturn. The Bible’s New Testament describes the Three Magi - Melchior, Caspar, and Balthazar - journeying to the location of Jesus’s birth by following a star, and upon their arrival, presenting him with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. To Christians, the gifts given at Christmas are symbolic of the tributes made to the baby Jesus by the Three Wise Men after his birth during the story of the Nativity. However, the practice is not something that is exclusive to Christianity, as several other religions mark the end of the year with a similar custom, such as the Jewish festival of lights Hanukkah or the Hindu celebration of Pancha Ganapati in honour of Lord Ganesha. Gift giving at Christmas is a Christian tradition that is widely practiced around the world. Where do Christmas presents originate from? It is important, however, to know exactly how this time-honoured tradition first began and what it represents, if only to ensure that we don’t lose sight of what our presents to one another really mean during this hectic time of year. Gift-giving is such a widely celebrated event in the Western world that huge industries have grown up around it - billions of pounds, euros, and dollars are spent every year creating, marketing, and distributing products that people can buy for one another. For children, and some adults too, the chance of getting presents is often the highlight of the festive season. Today, giving presents to one another forms a central part of Christmas day, with many families dedicating a lot of time to the custom. Even though trends and tastes in gifts may change, the gesture of acquiring, preparing, and bestowing something of value to friends and family is something that has been honoured by people all over the world in celebration of the festive period for thousands of years. Like many popular Christmas traditions, people have been exchanging gifts for a very long time. ![]()

Shadow president manual quotes7/13/2023 ![]() ![]() But he also took very strong stands on controversial issues, especially as the war went on.” ![]() “And I think that really sells Lincoln short and doesn’t actually represent what kind of a President he was… He indeed was able to compromise. “Very often…he’s being quoted as a conciliator, a compromiser-compromiser in the good sense-someone who could see all sides of an issue and come to some kind of middle way,” Masur says. The seven states that seceded before Inauguration Day 1861 interpreted that policy position as the first step to abolishing slavery altogether. He wouldn’t back down on the pledge that won him the 1860 presidential election: prohibiting slavery in new federal territories. Lincoln’s words are often used in the spirit of compromise, though historians say the President was vocally steadfast about his values. “This is a speech that delineates what the sources of the conflict are and says that he believes one side is in the right and one side is in the wrong and he sure hopes that more people won’t join the wrong side.” “This is not a speech that’s all about conciliation,” says Kate Masur, a historian at Northwestern University. 2019, a group of Republicans announced the founding of The Lincoln Project in the last year of the 2020 presidential campaign as an effort to defeat incumbent President Donald Trump and restore the Republican party’s reputation as the party of Lincoln. 4 press conference “why bother” going through with a second impeachment trial for the former President, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said “Ask Abraham Lincoln…You cannot go forward until you have justice.” Before Trump’s second impeachment trial started, Republican National Committee chair and Trump supporter Ronna McDaniel urged Biden and Senate Democrats to “heed Lincoln’s words” and forego the trial to “bringing our badly divided country together.” In Dec. Capitol and lawmakers debating on impeaching Donald Trump for a second time during his last days in office, politicos on both sides of the aisle have claimed that the Civil War President would be on their side. Whenever there is a time of crisis and uncertainty in America, one thing is certain: Abraham Lincoln is going to get quoted-a lot. ![]()

However, alternative methods (in particular, shorting out someone’s nervous system with a direct electrical charge, or simply interfering with the mechanical structure of their joints, can be just as effective at stopping them with far less dire consequences. ![]() In the case of restraints and submission holds, there is a danger of the individual injuring themselves, while they try to work their way out of the hold, but that risk is still vastly preferable to killing them on the spot.Īdrenaline is a very potent survival tool, in your physiology, and if you try to simply overpower that tool through direct force, it will lead to catastrophic consequences. Similarly, restraints, and other submission techniques can be used to hold them down. Less than lethal devices, such as tasers or chemical sprays, can absolutely incapacitate someone under an adrenaline rush, without severely harming them. That said, killing them is absolutely not your only option. The short answer to your question, “how much severely do you need to injure someone through an adrenaline rush?” You need to kill them. Also, for the record, I did not feel the gash that I was bleeding from, and angrily rubbed it a few times before realizing I’d been injured.) It might sound hilarious to be pissed off at your own blood leaking down the side of your face, but that was my experience. (To be clear, that’s not just a glib dismissal, being aware of bleed was actually annoying. Catastrophic blood loss during an adrenaline rush is not something I have personal experience with, and my experiences with bleeding while dealing with an adrenaline rush is more just that bleeding is an extremely annoying inconvenience, when you don’t need to consider what’s happening. I’m not completely sure what the subjective experience is there. Not that it matters, but as a minor up-side, adrenaline is delivered via the circulatory system, meaning if you start seriously bleeding, that’s your adrenaline rush going with it, so the rush is likely to drop off prematurely in the event of fatal blood loss. You just need to make sure that they’re actually incapacitated. So, if someone has been shot multiple times and is bleeding out, they’ll still lose consciousness. The “good” news is that an adrenaline rush will not prevent you from bleeding to death. Meaning, if you feel threatened, even if the actual danger has passed, the rush could continue (though it will usually drop off after, roughly, an hour.) ![]() In most cases, the adrenaline rush will drop off within a few minutes of the threat passing, though the state of threat is assessed by your brain, so your psychological state heavily affects that. It’s a little worse than I’m making it sound, too, because you can suffer non-fatal injuries during an adrenaline rush, and then aggravate the wound to the point that it becomes life threatening (or life-altering.) An adrenaline rush can, potentially, persist for over an hour. Destruction of the skeletal structure, (which is to say, destroying joints), might not completely stop them, but it’s an injury they won’t be able to power through (even if they aren’t immediately aware of it.) (And, yes, that can absolutely happen.)Īs a general rule, anything that will immediately kill someone, such as decapitation or catastrophic head trauma, will stop someone through an adrenaline rush. If they had an adrenaline rush, they might not be able to tell that they’ve been hit, and will need to physically examine themselves to ensure they’re not bleeding to death without realizing it. While it may seem slightly comical, the image of someone literally checking themselves for holes after being shot at is a real practice with genuine purpose. If you don’t finish someone off, they are still a potential threat until they are clinically dead. If you’ve ever seen the, “humans are space orcs,” meme, adrenaline is a big part of that. The scary thing about adrenaline is that you can suffer a mortal wound and not realize it until you drop dead. ![]()
